Hello, little English learners!
Learning English is super fun, but sometimes we all make silly mistakes. If you speak Spanish, there are some very common “oops!” moments when speaking English. But don’t worry—we’re going to show you how to fix them like a pro.
Let’s go!
1. I have 10 years — Incorrect
In Spanish, we say “Tengo 10 años.”
But in English, we say:
Correct: “I am 10 years old.”
“Have” is for things you own. “Am” is for your age.
2. He has 13 years — Incorrect
Correct: “He is 13 years old.”
It’s the same for “she” and “they” too.
3. Is very hot today — Incorrect
We need to say WHO or WHAT is hot.
Correct: “It is very hot today.”
“It” is the word we use when talking about the weather.
4. I am agree — Incorrect
This sounds okay in Spanish (“Estoy de acuerdo”) but not in English.
Correct: “I agree.”
You don’t need “am” here.
5. I have hungry — Incorrect
Correct: “I am hungry.”
You’re not “having” hunger… you are hungry!
6. Put attention! — Incorrect
We don’t “put” attention in English.
Correct: “Pay attention!”
This is a great one to use in class.
7. I am boring — Incorrect
You’re saying that you are a boring person.
Correct: “I am bored.”
“Boring” is what things are. “Bored” is how you feel.
8. I like very much pizza — Incorrect
We need to fix the word order.
Correct: “I like pizza very much.”
This sentence is now tasty and correct.
9. She have a dog — Incorrect
Correct: “She has a dog.”
Remember:
He, she, it = has
I, you, we, they = have
10. I am study English — Incorrect
Correct: “I am studying English.”
We need -ing when we’re doing something right now.
You’re getting better already!
Making mistakes is part of learning. The important thing is to keep practicing, laugh when it’s funny, and ask for help when you need it.
